Pete Waterman's Prodigious
New Singer Launches Debut Album With BBC Christmas Special
Lauren Waterworth is a remarkable
young lady with a voice that has propelled her to the top of
the music and television industry's HOT LIST. And she has just
made an astonishingly beautiful record of festive and popular
songs that will leave listeners amazed that this is the work
of a 14-year old.
Beyond Her Years is the title
of Lauren's debut album and the name sums up the quality of
the work: we are treated to 12 songs which cover a range of
styles including festive carols (Mary's Boy Child, Coventry
Carol, The Rocking Carol), hymns (Praise My Soul The King Of
Heaven, There Is A Green Hill Far Away, Abide With Me, Morning
Has Broken), and modern ballads. Lauren's rendition of 'Butterfly
Kisses' brings to mind the vocal ability of Celine Dion whilst
'His Eye Is On The Sparrow' and 'Amazing Grace' lose nothing
to Lauren Hill and Destiny's Child, whose recent renditions
have brought these two songs back into the public consciousness
in recent years.
In less than two months from now,
Lauren Waterworth will be a household name. On 7th December
BBC 1 will be airing the Songs Of Praise Xmas special. Lauren
will be performing alongside Sir Cliff Richard, Aled Jones &
Duel. She will be performing 2 songs - Ave Maria and Mary's
Boy Child. An estimated 10 million viewers will have a chance
to witness the amazing vocal ability of a star in the making.
But what of Lauren? How did such talent
become noticed and nurtured in the first place? Answer - Pete
Waterman. The evergreen songwriter, producer and Pop Idol celebrity
has been working with Lauren for over two years, developing
her voice and repertoire in the safe haven of PWL studios. Lauren's
demo was sent to Pete's attention, where he was presented with
a track featuring Lauren's vocals. Upon hearing the demo tape
he was stunned and when he finally met Lauren face to face he
was shocked by her youth - she was only 11 years old at the
time! After deliberating on whether to commit to developing
the talents of a minor (something he had sworn he would never
do again), Pete realised the huge natural talent in Lauren and
signed her up.
Speaking on his passion for his new
signing, Pete is quoted as saying "The North West is a breeding
ground of exceptional British talent not only for it's quality
but it's breadth. Take the diversity of Lennon & McCartney,
Gracie Fields and George Formby and one should never expect
the ordinary - Lauren Waterworth is extraordinary"
At four years old Lauren was singing
along to the Radio, TV, and Hollywood musicals entertaining
her family who didn't realise at the time that she was already
learning her craft. At 8 she entered a major local talent show
- stunned everyone and won with overwhelming applause. The North
West of England was now awakened to Lauren's talents and after
several slots on local TV news she became a regular on BBC GMR
singing live on Sunday mornings.
Since then a phenomenal interest in
her abilities has resulted in numerous invitations for her talent
to be displayed. Lauren has appeared with Rick Wakeman, Tony
Hadley and Atomic Kitten at the opening of the Warrington Peace
Centre in front of high profile guests including Mo Molam, John
Major and members of the Royal family. She has also performed
at Tracey Shaw's wedding and Phil Neville's Moulin Rouge charity
bash.
This
was more than enough to tempt Pete Waterman to start planning
her launch - to break his 20 year old vow - to shelve his involvement
with the winner of Pop Idol - to tell Steve Jenkins of Zomba
Records of his find - and to produce her first album. The buzz
surrounding Lauren made her top of a list of hopefuls to support
Westlife on their UK tour, impressed with her vocal maturity.
She performed in her first show just two days later in Newcastle,
this was the first of a successful 16 date tour with the band.
In true northern tradition Lauren's
mum and dad have kept her feet firmly on the ground. She adores
and scraps with her brothers Liam (13) and Luke (7), as does
any normal teenager. They are a down to earth and close family
with a daughter devoid of any delusions of grandeur. Spending
just five minutes with Lauren will convince you of her ambition,
drive and talent yet her grounded upbringing shines through.
Lauren Waterworth is a little girl
with big talent - listen and make up your own mind! Such vocal
maturity and projection of real emotion is not the domain of
